She recently returned burma adventure from a six-week trip to Sri Lanka and India. She's been to Cuba, Cambodia, adventure myanmar, and Ethiopia, and has many more trips coming up.

She's able to travel this way because she retired a year and a half ago - when she was 47 years old.

Last May, she shocked friends and coworkers with the announcement that she'd be leaving her role as Lincoln Financial Group's head of finance and strategy for retirement-plan services.

"I never thought I would retire at the age of 47 - it just crept up on me," says DeSimone. "I realized that I actually did have the money to retire, and I didn't need to be a certain age."
